Cash For Trash
CITIZEN GROUPS CAN EARN CASH AND PUBLIC SERVICES HOURS ASSISTING WITH CITY OF SPRING HILL 'CASH FOR TRASH' PROGRAM
The City of Spring Hill's volunteer Cash For Trash litter control program is designed to promote the cleaning of street rights-of-way within Spring Hill, which helps nonprofit groups earn public service hours while contributing to the aesthetics of our community. This program assists our Spring Hill Public Works Department in keeping our City looking clean and attractive while keeping our streams free of litter and debris by paying citizen groups for volunteer litter pickup.
The Spring Hill Board of Mayor and Aldermen in July 2017 approved a Resolution to Adopt A Cash For Trash Program, which officially launched in January 2018.
• The program is for not-for-profit organizations only.
• The City will pay groups $75 per centerline mile (both sides of road) with a minimum of 1 mile cleaned. The program sets a cleanup schedule for every six months.
• The City will provide trash bags, gloves, trash removal tools, water, etc..
• The minimum age to participate is 12 years old.
• The program is funded under the MS4-Stormwater Department, creating anticipated financial savings compared to the traditional method of litter pick up by Public Works employees.
• All participating nonprofit organizations must complete a W-9 form.
• The organization will clean from the edge of the pavement to the outside edge of the street rights-of-way (both sides). The City will provide the list of streets where litter pickup will occur. City crews will pick up filled trash bags the following day or on Monday morning. Bags will be weighed and disposed of properly by the City.
• The program provides recognition to groups of citizens by installing signs along the rights of way they maintain.
