Swiftwater Rescue

Due to the added pressure of moving water, Swiftwater rescue involves the use of specially trained personnel, ropes and mechanical advantage systems that are often much more robust than those used in standard rope rescue. The main goal is to use or deflect the water’s power to assist in the rescue of the endangered person(s), as in most situations there is no easy way to overcome the power of the water.

Swiftwater

Spring Hill's Swiftwater team is composed of twenty certified technicians from all three shifts within the Fire Department. This highly-skilled team is proficient in rescue, ropes, and rigging for any incident involving swift water. The team is composed of AEMT's, paramedics, as well as SHPD who can also administer aid to team members or civilians. Each member has a suit that is used along with a personal flotation device (PFD), helmet, gloves, and water boots that are individually fitted. The dedication and commitment of these twenty members is displayed in yearly training. Our Swiftwater team has provided this service to Spring Hill and surrounding agencies.
